Send my regard to your dad.

If there were an award for his actions (surely someone has invented it by now), he deserves ten of them.

All polished. All gleaming. All standing on a shelf in his home that catches the morning light...

We also need to give one to the grandmother who stood up to her priest and told him to stop, and became ostracized and hated and shunned. We need to find her, and thank her and apologize to her...

Second comment:

The phenomenon of Jesus was 100% a Jewish event. I think Jesus got his definition of the messiah from the ancient Torah. (And it appears that he may have read some of those scrolls that were shipped in the salt bottles out of Qumran.)

He was mentored by his cousin(?) John, the cold water rebirther.

(Google Sondra Ray.)

He learned all about the “what” that described the Messiah in those sacred texts. He and his friends also mapped out the “how” and the “when” and the “to be executed by whom” plan as well.

Excellent job that lot.

Did you ever noticed how Jesus attacked the powerful elites who he selected to use as the implement of fulfilling the ancient prophesies and realizing his own execution?

Here was the deal. You had to give a half ounce of silver to the God in the temple. But He was particular, and only accepted the coins without the iconic images on them.

(Which makes complete sense. However, it became corrupt and an evil presence due to the temple management's failure to bake up some silver tributes and put a responsible man out front to make sure nobody got cheated).

It was not a kind system. It was not a fair system. It was not a loving system. It was no system at all. It was cut throats hawking silver disks.

And hawking them for inflated prices. "Screw the Trolls," I believe was their motto. And Jesus went in and threw over their tables and told them all to get out. And he never flinched and he never apologized.

And it got him killed. And He knew it would get him killed. And He also knew it did not violate a single tennet of His teachings. And He never apologized.

My interpretation - my fundamentalism - is that Jesus thinks is is OK to turn over some of the money tables now and then, as long as nobody gets physically harmed, and it is a just cause. Thomas Jefferson rather emphasized this aspect of Christianity.

The temple management failed to recognize and deal with this problem in a way that made it easy for the peasants to pay their loving homage, and not get ripped off.

And Jesus called them on it.

Wonder what he woulda done with Jim...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6827464299415582466.post-16549250216486209792008-12-15T18:37:00.000-05:002008-12-15T18:37:00.000-05:00yes, that's only a nickname.I suppose you are righ...yes, that's only a nickname.
I suppose you are right about the media only caring about themselves, but after this past election it is hard not to have seen how most of them favoured one side...eilandkind/islandchildhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07789550816345574082noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6827464299415582466.post-4524432202444236802008-12-03T01:24:00.000-05:002008-12-03T01:24:00.000-05:00Good to hear from you, Eilandkind (now, is that yo...Good to hear from you, Eilandkind (now, is that your "pen name" or the real thing, in Afrikaans??)

Hey, it's not the least bit surprising that your husband had been kept in the dark all these years (like the rest of the public) about what--and who--REALLY gave Jim Jones the turbo charge in his assent to power. Just imagine if.....IF ONLY.....that craven pack of big media bosses, from the New York Times to the San Francisco Examiner, had just followed my father and Carolyn Pickering's (Indianapolis Start) lead in 1972.

Regarding the notion of Jones being a "Christian gone crazy"; he did in fact preach Christianity as a youth and young adult in Indiana, but what the media likes to soft-pedal is that he was at heart a ruthless, hardcore Marxist-Lenninist.

And he ran his cult as if he were Stalin.

I will say this again--I abhore all forms of extremism, from the right or the left-wing. I don't really know how valid it is to label the mainstream media "left leaning," in light of the handful of corporate interests that have taken over nearly all of the print and electronic media in this country.

For the most part, big corporate interests would seem much more motivated by promoting & pursuing not the Left, but the Bottom Line.

Whatever obfuscations, lies, and coverups it requires carrying out that mission, the big media barons too often will embrace whatever agenda, left, moderate, or right, to further their favorite cause:

Themselves.Tom Kinsolvinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17696831283935899290noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6827464299415582466.post-84101540619401649212008-12-02T11:09:00.000-05:002008-12-02T11:09:00.000-05:00Thank you for your blog.I heard about Jonestown, f...Thank you for your blog.
I heard about Jonestown, from my American husband, who was shocked when I told him about Jones' liberal connections.
He never knew about it, he only heard, growing up on the other side of the country, that Jones was a Christian gone crazy.
I see that the media has been left leaning for far longer than what I thought.eilandkind/islandchildhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07789550816345574082noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6827464299415582466.post-86341634989520121282008-11-30T19:11:00.000-05:002008-11-30T19:11:00.000-05:00Especially with a name like "anonymous".Especially with a name like "anonymous".Robin Shelleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15282504761189889311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6827464299415582466.post-82481124825579092502008-11-29T13:57:00.000-05:002008-11-29T13:57:00.000-05:00(Mr. or Ms.) Anonymous, you might want to apply a ...(Mr. or Ms.) Anonymous, you might want to apply a bit more effort into orienting yourself with sites you've "stumbled" into. Then once you've gotten your bearings, try to grasp the significance of CONTEXT of some statements. It might just help resolve those misconceptions.

Your dismissive regard for Rev. Norwood is obvious. But you do get a big red "A" on your history homework. It's true that Stalin, Hitler, and Pol Pot were murdering maniacs on a scale far exceeding the crimes committed in the People's Temple.

Unfortunately, however, you don't seem to recognize another larger picture. Do remember that Jynona Norwood is someone that watched 27 members of her family, including her mother, become enslaved and horrifically abused with some 900 others in one of the most destructive cults in history.

Then, as the grand finale, Jynona's family is slaughtered like cattle with nearly all the rest, on the orders of one horrendously evil man.

Still clueless?

You can't comprehend why a grieving, devastated woman, on the anniversary of the destruction of her family, would call Jim Jones "the most evil man that walked the earth"??

The next time you've stumbled into an area with more than one dimension, please try to keep this in mind.

Otherwise, gosh, people just might not take you too seriously.Tom Kinsolvinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17696831283935899290noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6827464299415582466.post-3842846866777707472008-11-29T11:34:00.000-05:002008-11-29T11:34:00.000-05:00"...most evil man who walked on earth."?
